Leonard D. Jackson Ken-Gar Community Center

After several different uses, this early two-room schoolhouse was renovated by Montgomery County in 2013, and dedicated as the Leonard D. Jackson Ken-Gar Community Center. Leonard Jackson was a local champion of civil rights, who organized the Ken-Gar Civic Association in the 1950s and fought for improvements and civil rights in the community and the county.
Both the churches and the Jackson Ken-Gar Center continue to serve as centers of communication and networking, providing a strong sense of community that endures today.
