10226 Carroll Place

10226 Carroll Place is a turn-of-the-century (beginning of the 1900s) wood frame house in the Queen Anne style. Facing the street corner, a decorated pediment indicates the front entry. Wings and bays project at different angles from the center hall. The hipped roof is interrupted by various dormers, gables, and chimneys. Windows vary in size, type and arrangement. A notable example is the triple stained glass on the second floor, west, or Fawcett Street, side. Embellishments include fish scale as well as 3-inch siding, lattice, and delicately turned posts on the extensive verandah. (Compare this house to those at 10400 Montgomery Avenue and 10304 Kensington Parkway.) At the rear we find a restored 1 ½ story carriage house, once used as an inventor’s laboratory and now as a garage/pool house.
