10549 St. Paul Street
10549 St. Paul Street was the first church building in Kensington. The St. Paul’s Methodist congregation quickly outgrew the 1885 structure, and in 1899 the church was sold to Christ Episcopal Church, which also outgrew the space and moved in 1924. At that time it was remodeled and sold as a private residence. A fish-scale-shingled bell cupola that once perched atop the roof ridge and three leaded glass windows with Gothic style arches are now gone. The most notable original feature still present is the Stick style front porch. The porch gable facing St. Paul Street is supported by a simple diagonal brace or “stick”. In addition, the porch roof rafters (“sticks”) are exposed. Early photographs of the church show no other decorative or patterned detailing.
