Noyes Library at 10237 Carroll Place
Noyes Library at 10237 Carroll Place has served the residents of Kensington since January 1893. Brainard Warner founded the library, and Crosby Noyes, editor and publisher of the Washington Evening Star, assembled its book collection. Noyes Library soon became the town’s social and cultural center. The simple shingled building has undergone several renovations, most notably the enclosure of its front porch. The Noyes Library owl, situated in the front gable, marks the entry for young patrons, who call this the “No Yes” Library. Today, Noyes Library is the County’s only children’s library. When Noyes funding was drastically reduced in 1991, the community formed the Noyes Children’s Library Foundation, which rescued the Library then and continues to provide assistance.
